WHO

 WHO does your money support?

Your money supports women who benefit from programs run by Calvary Women’s Services. Their housing, health, employment and education programs cater to women in the DC area who are in need of support.

WHO is the founder of BRICK x BRICK Studio?

Hi everyone! I’m Rachel Edelstein, an Interior Designer at an architecture firm in Georgetown by day. Every weekend since Spring 2019, I’ve been working on developing this brand and creating art prints to sell in support of homeless services in DC.

WHAT

WHAT are you getting when you purchase a print from BRICK x BRICK?

When you purchase a print from BRICK x BRICK Studio, you get more than a work of art from a local DC artist. You get to contribute to championing Calvary’s mission to end homelessness, inspire hope, and transform lives. Supporting BxB is a wonderful opportunity to lend a hand to two types of businesses that greatly impact local communities — local art, and local charities.

WHAT makes BRICK x BRICK different from other art studios?

BRICK x BRICK is different from other art studios in many ways. It’s a studio that focuses on equal parts art and charity. These concepts are intertwined throughout the brand and mission. BRICK x BRICK is a local business that champions DC at every turn. The watercolors are painted in DC, based on photos captured by DC photographers, of quintessential DC townhouses and row houses, with all proceeds going directly to DC homeless shelters and services. District pride!

WHEN

WHEN will you receive your print after making your online purchase?

Each piece is printed using a Giclee technique on high-quality Moab bright white archival art paper. This process ensures that the prints are of the highest possible quality, resistant to fading over time. This printing process can take approximately one week from order placement to arrival in DC at BRICK x BRICK Studio. After the prints arrive, they’ll get safely packaged with love and care, and mailed off to you via USPS. Please be advised that this process can amount to a 1-3 week wait time from day of online purchase to the receipt of your print in the mail. Printing time, shipping time, and shipping cost vary by print size. Please feel free to reach out to info@brickxbrickstudio.com with questions and specific timing needs.

WHEN will charities reap the benefits of your donation?

Calvary Women’s Services will receive the money raised by your purchase of these prints on a monthly basis. Please sign up for the BRICK x BRICK monthly newsletter to learn more about ways in which your purchases will impact the women of Calvary.

WHERE

WHERE is BRICK x BRICK located?

BRICK x BRICK is located in Southeast DC. All prints purchased online will be shipped from a fine art printing company to DC, and then shipped out from DC (signed, titled, numbered, and lovingly packaged) to anywhere you are (within the United States).

WHERE does your money go once it’s donated to Calvary?

When a monthly proceeds check gets delivered to Calvary, they’ll process that as a general donation to all of their programs and services. These programs include:

HOUSING: Calvary provides transitional and permanent supportive housing services that enable women to make lasting changes in their lives.

HEALTH: Calvary provides therapy and mental health services with a licensed professional, addiction recovery support, and nursing care — all on-site.

EMPLOYMENT: Step Up DC, Calvary Women's Services' job placement program, assists women in gaining employment and financial security.

EDUCATION: Calvary's life skills, education, and arts program (LEAP) is designed to address gaps that may exist in the education and life skills of the women they serve.

WHY

WHY this charity?

Upon researching local homeless services in the DC area, Calvary’s mission stood out. Supporting women is very important to me, and I love that Calvary’s programs are tailor-made to rehabilitate women in the DC area in such a multi-faceted way. It’s not just that Calvary provides a home for these women to stay in until they get on their feet, it’s the fact that they care deeply about the future of the women once they leave. Their mix of health, educational, and employment programs demonstrates a profound care for the way these women live on after their time at Good Hope Road. This charity is comprised of wonderful and successful programs run by compassionate and dedicated people. I encourage you to visit their website at https://www.calvaryservices.org/ to learn more about the women who benefit from their care.

WHY portraits of row houses in DC?

Row houses are such a defining element of the fabric of DC. They’re recognizable, they conjure up a certain homely feeling in every resident of the DMV. I chose to paint these homes because they represent a city at a glance, and they represent a home itself. Architecture and design have always been important to me, and naturally the beauty of these row houses makes them the perfect subject to paint. They make the most wonderful gift, an element of decor and a reminder of home.

WHY the name BRICK x BRICK?

Brick by brick, these row houses were built. Just the same way that brick by brick, this concept formed. One small thing by one small thing at a time is how change occurs, and that’s the basis of this company’s mission. With each beautiful place photographed, with each watercolor painted, with each person who comes across this company, with each print produced… brick by brick by brick by brick. This is how we will make a change.
